Stay strong, Luna. Too many things depend on your elder sister. Don't let eternal night take over.—Princess Luna to herself
Luna still harbours some sense of jealousness and envy deep inside her heart, even after seeing her subjects' admiration at Nightmare Night. Having experienced upfront how powerful the Elements of Harmony were, she knew she had to confront her maliciousness herself if she transformed back into Nightmare Moon, and for that she tries to remember Celestia's importance in maintaining Equestrian peace, which is this piece's subject. The face-to-face format presented here has already been utilised in some of my other pictures (such as Parcluna
and Composition 284
), but this is NMM's début in my gallery. The title is a nod to the pilot of the 1986 My Little Pony
series (aired on 14 April 1984), Rescue at Midnight Castle.
I'll suggest here that the time spent exporting this image at 11200×6400 resolution using Inkscape without any modifications should be used to benchmark computers, owing to its small SVG file size (around 70 kB) and large PNG export size (6.2 MB, almost as large as Her Love of Love
). This bit ballooning is due to my usage of Gaussian blurs for NMM's mane and a mask on Luna to depict the Princess of the Night within
said mane (as NMM is the corrupted form of Luna). On my Trisquel 6.0 system, it takes 13 minutes and 24 seconds.EDIT
: Colours updated to version 2.2, and a tip from ~HalfDeathShadow
on the layering of NMM's eyelash.Colour scheme
